Modern living can create uncomfortable stress in our most valued relationships. Those who telephone the Centre will be greeted by a bilingual receptionist who will ask for a brief outline of the help the caller would like to receive.

This information is then reviewed by a supervisor, who will assign a counsellor suitable to the situation.

The Centre for Counselling and Pastoral Services opened its doors in 1974, at Saint Paul University, and is part of the Faculty of Human Sciences. It acts as a flagship for the Practica of the Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies. This degree is given by one of two concentrations: Pastoral Counselling or Pastoral Care in Health Care Services.

The Centre for Counselling and Pastoral Services provides in vivo experience with clients. This year, about 80 students will enjoy the facilities of the Centre. Last year we had over 3,200 sessions involving individuals and couples, and we responded to more than 1,200 telephone calls. All services are available in both official languages.

Since the students’ progress is regularly followed by a number of supervisors (psychologists, social workers, etc) accredited by various recognized professional associations, students become familiar with a variety of approaches while being encouraged to develop their own counselling style.

The Centre for Counselling and Pastoral Services consists of three offices and approximately 20 counselling rooms, all equipped with two-way mirrors, video cameras and recorders. Thanks to this equipment, the students can acquire on site their practice in Pastoral Counselling.

The Centre for Counselling and Pastoral Services acts as the hub of the busy life of the interns who are involved in the two-year in Master’s degree in Counselling. The Centre for Counselling and Pastoral Services epitomizes the feeling of comeradery and concern for the community.

Come join us, and study under the unique conditions of Saint Paul University, where we treasure excellence. There is a wonderful spirit of community and fellowship at the Centre for Counselling and Pastoral Services, and interns care deeply about clients and one another.
