Rev. Prof. Jobe Abbass is a full professor in the Faculty of Canon Law at Saint Paul University in Ottawa and is a specialist in Eastern and Comparative Canon Law. He taught THO 3323 Canonical Tradition of the Christian East (Fall 2005). 

 

Rev. Prof. Taras Barscevki is a Ukrainian Catholic priest from Yugoslavia, and studied at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He has taught Scripture courses in our summer program in Univ, Ukraine (1998, 1999, 2003 and 2005).

 

Rev. Prof. Stefan Batruch was working on his Ph.D. in the area of spiritual theology and was administrator of the Ukrainian-Catholic Parish in Lublin, Poland while lecturing for two summers at Ukrainian Catholic University. He taught THO 2144 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Spirituality: Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Renewal Movements (Summer 2001) and THO 2144 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Spirituality: Liturgical Foundations of Eastern Christian Spirituality (Summer 2002).

 

Rev. Prof. François E. Beyrouti is a doctoral student at Saint Paul University and is a priest at the Melkite Church in Ottawa (Sts. Peter and Paul Parish). He taught THO 3301 Hermeneutics and Exegesis in Eastern Christianity (Fall 2000 and Fall 2003).

 

Rev. Prof. Stephàne Bigham is an Orthodox priest, serving the francophone community in Montreal. He holds a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Montreal. Prof. Bigham has taught THO 2134 The Seven Ecumenical Councils (Fall 1995) and THO 2181 Eastern Christian Spirituality (Fall 1997).

 

Rev. Prof. Ihor Boyko received his D.Th.M. from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome in the area of Moral Theology. He taught THO 2145 Selected Topics in the Moral Tradition of the Christian East 1: Bioethics in Eastern Christian Perspective in the Univ summer program (Summer 2007)

 

Rev. Prof. Yuriy Bokyo did doctoral studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and was a professor in the summer program at Ukrainian Catholic University teaching THO 2197 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Doctrinal Tradition 1: Credo - the Historical Context and Theological Articulation of the Creed (Summer 2007).

 

Prof. Elias El-Hayek has a Doctorate in Utroque Iure from St. John Lateran University and has taught two courses at the graduate level: THO 6392 History of Eastern Christian Person: Ephraim the Syrian & Syraic Theology (Winter 2001), and THO 2186 Canonical Tradition of the Christian East (Winter 2003).

 

Prof. Barbara Frank is a doctoral candidate in the interdisciplinary field of bioethics at the Université de Montréal and was the lecturer for THO 3309 Contemporary Moral Issues in Eastern Theology (Fall 2005).

 

Rev. Prof. Borys Gudziak received a degree in theology from Rome's Urbaniana University in 1983 and then returned to America, where he earned a doctorate in Slavic and Byzantine Cultural History from Harvard University in 1992. In 1995 he received a licentiate degree in Eastern theology from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. He taught in 1992 and 1995 at the Mount Tabor summer program in California.

 

Prof. Verna Harrison has a Doctorate in Historical Theology from Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley CA, and was sessional lecturer for THO 2133 Early Christian Interpretation of Psalms (Winter 2002).

 

Rev. Prof. Michael Hryniuk has a Doctorate from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and taught THO 2144 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Spirituality: Faith Development and Christian Identity, at our summer program in Ottawa (Summer 2005).

 

Rev. Prof. Robert A. Hutcheon is a medical doctor and was the first student to complete a doctorate in Eastern Christian Theology at the Sheptytsky Institute. He has since returned to teach THO 6381 Contemporary Eastern Theology: Health and Healing in the Byzantine Tradition.

 

Prof. L. Kamperidis studied at the University of Montreal and taught THO 6387 Issues in Eastern Christian Liturgical History: Byzantine Liturgy Under Ottoman Rule (Winter 2001).

 

Prof. Charles Kannengiesser, is a specialist in Athanasius the Great and in patristic exegesis. He taught THO 6379 Issues in Eastern Christian Hermeneutics and Exegesis: Patristic Exegesis - Alexandrian School (Winter 2000 and Winter 2001).

 

Rev. Prof. Pavlos Koumarianos received his Ph.D. in Theology in 1996 from the Pontifical Institute of History and Theology of the Eastern Churches in Rome with a specialization in liturgics and is working on his second Ph.D. at the University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He taught THO 2144 The Contribution of Maximus the Confessor at the summer program in Orangeville (Summer 2002). He was a sessional lecturer for THO 6376 Mystical-Ascetical Approaches to Eastern Christian Studies: The Spiritual-Theological Legacy of Maximos the Confessor (Winter 2003).

 

Prof. Andrii Krawchuk was a full-time professor specializing in Ukrainian and Eastern Church History from 1998 until 2004. He taught a number of graduate courses: THO 6375 Ethnoreligious Conflict in the Christian East (Fall 2003); THO 7286/7686 Research Seminar: The Use and Abuse of "Historical Truth" (Fall 2002 and Winter 2003); THO 6375 Women in Christian East (Fall 2001); THO 6375 Theological and Historical Approaches to Eastern Christian Studies (Fall 2000); THO 7285/7685 Ethnoreligious Conflict: Towards a Responsible Theology of Reconciliation / Le Conflict Ethno-Religieux: vers une Théologie Responsible de la Réconciliation (Research Seminar) (Fall 1999 and Winter 2001). Prof. Yakiv Krekhovetsky specializes in Pneumatology, Faith and Science, Byzantine and East-Slavic iconography. He taught THO 2196 The Theology and Spirituality of Icons at our summer program in Univ, Ukraine (Summer 1999).

 

Prof. Danylo Kuc is a doctoral student in the Eastern Christian Studies program here at the Sheptytsky Institute. He taught THO 3322 Byzantine Eucharistic Liturgies (Winter 2004).

 

Rev. Prof. Ihor Kutash is a Ukrainian Orthodox priest from the Montreal area. He has a doctorate from McGill University and specializes in Eastern Orthodox ethics and 18th century East-Slavic philosophy. He taught THO 2130 Sources of Holy Tradition (Fall 1998, Winter 2001), THO 2149 East-West Ecumenism and Ecclesiology (Fall 2002), THO 6392 The History of Eastern Christian Institutions, Movements, Persons: Hyrhorii Skovoroda: A Secular Monk (Jan. 2004), and THO 3308 Patristic Moral Tradition (Winter 2005, Fall 2007).

 

Rev Prof. Michael Kwiatkowski is the Spiritual Director at Holy Spirit Seminary in Ottawa and holds a doctorate in canon law and degrees in theology and philosophy. He taught THO 2309  Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Canonical Tradition I: A Revolution Waiting to Happen: Lay Participation and the Eastern Code (Summer 2007)

Bishop Hlib Lonchyna is a Studite hieromonk who completed his doctorate in liturgy at the Papal Urbanian University and at the Papal Oriental Institute in 2001. His field of expertise includes Byzantine-Slav liturgy and musicology as well as the Psalter. He taught in our summer program in Univ, Ukraine (1998). He was consecrated bishop in 2002.

Rev. Prof. Maxym Lysak is the pastor of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Mission in Ottawa and Chaplain at University of Ottawa. He was a sessional lecturer for THO 2181 Eastern Christian Spirituality (Winter 2001), THO 2130 Sources of Holy Tradition: Foundations of Eastern Christian Theology (Fall 2002), THO THO 2137 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Thought I (Summer 2007) and for THO 3318 Eastern Christian Spirituality (Fall 2003, Winter 2007)

Prof. Robert Marko has a doctorate in theology from Duquesne University and is a professor of Theology at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He taught THO 3324 Introduction to Eastern Christian Ethics at our summer program in Orangeville, Ontario (Summer 2004).

 

Prof. Mary Marrocco, has a Ph.D. from St. Michael's College in Toronto and has been a sessional lecturer for THO 2130 Sources of Holy Tradition (Fall 1996), THO 2144 The Examples of Holy Persons as a Paradigm for Contemporary Work Among the Poor (Orangeville, Summer 2001), THO 6380 Patristic Theology: Patristic Texts on Holiness and Poverty (Winter 2003), and for THO 2144 Eastern Christian Spirituality: the Church Fathers (Winter 2005). Her field of expertise includes: systematic theology, divinization (theosis), Augustine and the appropriation of his thought in the East.

 

Prof. Volodymyr Mezentsev is a specialist in Ukrainian Christian archeology and has held three postdoctoral fellowships in North America. He taught THO 6387 Issues in Eastern Christian Liturgical History: Byzantine and Ukrainian Church Architecture (Winter 2000) and THO 2306 Byzantine and East Slavic Architecture in Ukraine (Summer 2000).

 

Rev. Prof. Andrew Morbey is a priest of the Orthodox Church in America. He holds an M.Div. from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and an M.Th. from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. He has expertise in Syriac studies, Eastern Orthodoxy in North America and Byzantine Liturgy. He taught THO 2140 Contemporary Moral Issues in Eastern Theology (Winter 1998), THO 2182 Eastern Christian Doctrine I: Trinity, Christ, Spirit (Fall 2000) and THO 2148 Eastern Christian Doctrines II: Theological Anthropology, Soteriology, Eschatology (Winter 2000 & Fall 2002).

 

Bishop David Motiuk, former rector of Holy Spirit Seminary, and now Bishop for the Eparchy of Edmonton holds a doctorate in Eastern Canon Law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. He has taught THO 2186 Canonical Tradition of the Eastern Churches (Winter 1997 and Fall 1999), THO 2309 Selected Topics in the Canonical Tradition of the Eastern Churches: Canon Law for Eastern Catholic Parish Administration (Winter 1997), as well as THO 6176 Sources of Byzantine Canon Law (Winter 2000). He is also a frequent lecturer with Saint Paul University's Faculty of Canon Law.

 

Prof. Andriy Mykhaleyko teaches in the Faculty of Philospohy and theology at Ukrainian Catholic University. He taught THO 2138 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian History 1: The Churches of the Byzantine Tradition: Past, Present, Ecumenical Inititatives in the summer program in Ukraine (Summer 2008).

Rev. Prof. Andrew T. Onuferko has has been in administration at the Sheptytsky Institute since 1996 and was Acting Director from 2003 to 2006. Prof. Michael Petrowycz received a doctoral degree in liturgy from the Sheptytsky Institute at Saint Paul University. He returned to Ukraine where he taught THO 3328 The Holy Mysteries: Byzantine Sacraments at our program in Univ, Ukraine (Summer 2005).

Prof. Suzette Phillips is a doctoral student in the Eastern Christian Studies program at the Sheptytsky Institute and is also an occupational therapist. She taught THO 2144 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Spirituality I: A Contemporary Reading of The Way of a Pilgrim (Summer 2006), and THO 2144 The Contemplative Psychology of Eastern Christian Spirituality (Winter 2004).

Prof. Andrew Quinlan is a specialist in Byzantine Liturgy with particular expertise in the Triodion. He was a full-time professor, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, substituting for Prof. Peter Galadza during his sabbatical (Fall 1999-Winter 2000). He returned to teach at our summer program in Orangeville, Ontario and taught THO 3328 The Holy Mysteries: Byzantine Sacraments (Summer 2004).

 

Prof. Horia Roscanu taught THO 2131 General Introduction to the Eastern Churches (Winter 1996, Winter 1998, Fall 2001) as well as THO 2149 Ecclesiology and East-West Ecumenism (Fall 1999) while he was a doctoral candidate.

 

Prof. Yuriy Sakvuk is a doctoral student at the Sheptytsky Institute and taught THO 2130 Foundations of Eastern Christian Theology at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Summer 2002) as well as THO 3316 Ecclesiology and East-West Ecumenism (Summer 2004).

 

Prof. Richard Schneider is an Orthodox layman and York University professor of Church History as well as the Past-President of the Canadian Council of Churches. He holds a M.Phil. from Columbia University. Prof. Schneider taught THO 2137 Eastern Christianity in North America: From Ethnic Enclaves to Enculturating Churches, in Orangeville (Summer 2002), THO 6352 Ecumenism and Eastern Christianity Medieval Church Art in East and West (Fall 2002), THO 6381 The Life and Theology of Georges Florovsky (Fall 2003), THO 2120 Introduction to the New Testament Fall 2004), THO 3303: The Seven Ecumenical Councils in Eastern Christian Tradition (Fall 2004), THO 2133: Hermeneutics and Exegesis: Eastern Reading of the Old Testament (Winter 2005).

 

Prof. Jaroslav Skira holds a Ph.D. from Saint Michael's College in Toronto. He specializes in contemporary Orthodox systematics (particularly Trinitarian theology) and Eastern Christian ecclesiology. He has been a sessional lecturer in our summer program in Univ, Ukraine: THO 2130 Sources of Holy Tradition (Summer 1996) and THO 2182 Eastern Christian Doctrine: Triadology, Christology and Pneumatology (Summer 1997), He also taught THO 2198 Ecclesiology in East and West in our summer intensive program in Orangeville, Ontario (Summer 2000).

 

Prof. Andrew Sorokowski received his Ph.D. from the University of London School of Slavonic and East European Studies in 1991. He taught THO 2138 Eastern Christian History at the summer program in Univ, Ukraine (Summer 2000).

 

Prof. Yevhen Stanishevskyy taught THO 2152 Selected Topics in the New Testament I: The Pauline Corpus at the summer program in Univ, Ukraine (Summer 2004).

 

Prof Halyna Teslyuk is studying biblical studies at the Graduate Theological Union in California. She taught THO 2144 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Spirituality 1:Theological and Liturgical Aspects of Biblical Prayer in the summer program in Ukraine (Summer 2008).

Prof. Lucian Turcescu, is a Romanian Orthodox layman, He was a Ph.D. Candidate at St. Michael's College in Toronto while teaching THO 2137 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Thought: Ecclesiology (Fall 1996).

Prof. Roman Zaviyskyy studied at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and taught THO 2197 The Historical Development of Trinitarian Doctrine: An Eastern Christian Perspective in the summer program at Ukrainian Catholic University (Summer 2003).

 

Rev. Prof. Gregory Zubacz has a doctorate in Canon Law from Saint Paul University. He is also a civil lawyer. He taught THO 2309 Selected Topics in the Eastern Christian Canonical TraditionMonastic and Religious Canons of the Eastern Code of Canon Law at the summer program in Orangeville (Summer 2003) and THO 2309 Selected Topics in the Eastern Christian Canonical Tradition: Marriage (Fall 2004).

Rev. Prof. Alexander Baran (1926-2004) was a Ukrainian Catholic priest and professor emeritus from the University of Manitoba, who specialized in Byzantine and Ukrainian Church history, as well as in Hungarian and Slovak Greco-Catholicism. He taught THO 2138 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian History: The Union of Brest, 1956 (Winter 1996), and THO 6398 Inter-religious Issues (Fall 2001).

 

Rev. Prof. Russel Yaroslav Dybka was a Redemptorist from Winnipeg who taught THO 2181 Eastern Christian Spirituality in the summer program at Ukrainian Catholic University (Summer 2001).

Archimandrite Boniface Luykx (1915-2004) taught THO 2306 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Liturgy at Mount Tabor (Summer 1997 and 1998) and team taught THO 2306 Reform and Renewal in Byzantine Liturgy along with Fr. David Anderson and Fr. Damian Higgins at Mount Tabor (Summer 1999).
