SHEPTYTSKY INSTITUTE STUDY DAYS

JULY 2 TO 5 , 2008

Close to 200 participants from throughout North America and from Ukraine gathered recently in Ottawa for Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute Study Days 2008.

Saint Paul University Rector Dale Schlitt addressed the participants at the opening session.

Fr. Thomas Hopko, Dean Emeritus from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary spoke on Christian Doctrine in an Age of Relativism.

Presvitera Mathewes-Green, a noted author, speaker and media personality, discussed Morality in a Post-Christian Age.

 

Those attending Study Days included: lay people and clergy, Melkite Catholics, Antiochian Orthodox, Ukranian Catholic and Orthodox, Orthodox Church in America, Ruthenian Catholics, Carpatho-Russian Orthodox and Western Chrisitans of various churches.
 
Presvitera Irene Galadza from St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church in Brampton, Ontario, led a workshop on catechesis.

Liturgical services included Matins and Divine Liturgy in the morning and Vespers in the late afternoon.

Mary Melnyk from Toronto and Loretta Nemeth from Garfield Heights in Ohio.

Fr. Stephen Wojcichowsky, the Director of MASI, showed a segment from a film during his social justice workshop.

Presvitera Melita Mudri-Zubacz led sessons on advanced cantor training.

Fr. Peter Galadza, the program coordinator of Study Days, spoke at his plenary session on Eastern Liturgy in a Western World.

Lesya Sabada shared her knowledge of Archbishop Joseph Raya during her workshop session.

The youth group sang a number of songs at the Friday night community meal.

Justine Cruz, along with a high school volunteers, helped with the youth program during Study Days.

 

Youth coordinator Lisa Hladio (wearing hat) along with adult musicians, and dedicated high school volunteers accompanied the youth as they shared what they learned during Study Days.

Those involved in organizing Study Days were presented with mitres for all their efforts.

Fr. Andriry Chirovsky wrapped up Study Days with a plenary session on the Evangelization of North America.

Father Stephen Wojcichowsky preached at Divine Liturgy on the last day.
