Library Expansion Project Update On March 9, 2006, Saint Paul University proudly celebrated the official opening of the new Rare Book Room and Related Facilities, representing the successful completion of Phase I of the University’s three-phase Library Expansion Project. We are presently seeking support for Phase II: the construction of an addition to our present library building. This addition will permit us to house items being added each year to our specialized research Library which presently has over 430,000 holdings, including 1,242 periodicals, many microform materials, multi-media equipment, rare books and archival materials. The added library capacity will make a major difference in our ability to serve our students and the wider community. It will encourage quality scholarship and help us to reach new audiences in areas such as spirituality, the humanities, social action and community services. The Library Expansion Project will help us foster research and better support our various undergraduate and graduate programs by significantly increasing the space available to students and researchers. Phase III of the project, to be pursued at a later date, will include the addition of a new multi-media centre as well as increased administrative and book-processing space. Our goal for Phase II is to begin construction in 2007 or 2008. However, in order to do so, we need to raise the necessary funds. An estimated 5 million dollars is needed, of which some 10 percent or so has already been raised. If you would like to contribute to this important project, please contact Daniel Clapin, Director, Alumni and Development, for a confidential discussion about your personal support. |
